It has been observed that females and people who identify as LGBTQIA+ are often in need of immediate help when they feel threatened by potential violent crimes on the street.

In 2016, Plan International, CrowdSpot, and Monash University XYZ Lab created the Free-to-be Interactive Map, which is used as a case study for this project. This map extension, Free-to-be 2.0, helps individuals navigate public spaces more safely and includes Community Watch features that create a supportive community by providing extensive assistance to those in need.
